Dorothy Jean Thornton

Dorothy Jean Thornton, 60 a resident of Headland passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the 912 State Street Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the hall.

Ms. Thornton was born on January 18, 1956 in Deland, FL and lived there the early part of her life and moved to Dothan in 1968. She was a 1974 graduate of Dothan High School and was married to Donnie Gene Thornton on October 5, 1975. She was employed with Wex-Tex for 5 years and later she was self-employed as owner/operator of a house cleaning service. She was then employed with Azalea Court as a cook for over 18 years until her medical retirement in 2014. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and loved to prepare meals for her family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, reading a good book, dancing, jigsaw puzzles, giving good advice, and teaching others the good news of God’s Kingdom. She was a baptized faithful servant for 31 years at the North Congregation Kingdom Hall where she was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Donnie Gene Thornton, and her father Doorother Hill.

Survivors include her daughter, Selena Thornton; her mother, Cubie Hill; her brothers, James Eva Hill, Dorother Hill, Gary Katrina Hill and Milton Hill; her sisters, Virginia Morgan, Lovell Johnny Hill, Sherian Earl Lawrence, Lawanda Michael Hill and Angela Hill; a host of nieces and nephews and her special four-legged friend, Taylor; and a whole congregation of loving brothers and sisters.
