Douglas Sowell

Douglas Eugene Sowell, 62, of Columbia, Alabama passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, January 4, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Corley officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sowell was born July 17, 1950 in Covington County, Alabama and lived the early part of his life in Red Level, AL. He was employed as a welder for over 45 years and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 52. He has resided in Columbia, AL for more than 40 years. Mr. Sowell was a Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his mother Myrtle Williams Sowell of Red Level, AL.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Smith Sowell of Columbia, AL; children, Suzanne Sowell of Columbia, AL, Desiree S. Michael Haselden of Columbia, AL, Teri Ward Ashley of Donalsonville, GA, and Malissa S. Hester of Opp, AL; grandchildren, Karson Erp, Morgan Erp, Luke Erp, Emma Haselden, and Acea Haselden; his father Ralph V. Sowell of Red Level, AL; brothers, Roger Bonnie Sowell of Red Level, AL, and Wendell Cindy Sowell of Red Level, AL; a sister Brenda S. Larry Selman of Red Level, AL; several nieces and nephews also survive.
