Dr. Walter Long

Dr. Walter Bruce Long, 85 of Dothan passed away Sunday January 20, 2013 at a local hospital.

Services will be held 10 am, February 2, 2013 at Episcopal Church of the Nativity with Mother Ede Plovanich officiating and Robert Byrd directing. Reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 205 Holly Lane, Dothan, AL, 36301.

Dr. Long was born March 9, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana and lived his early life there. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Long resided in Jackson, Michigan prior to moving to Dothan in 1983. Dr. Long was part of the Dothan medical community for over 30 years and was affiliated with the Southeast Medical Center where he worked in the Emergency Department and later with Occupational Medicine and also private practice. He was a life member of the American Legion, Episcopal Church of the Nativity and the Dothan Elks Lodge. He was also a 30 year member of the Dothan Country Club, the Hackers Golf Group and past chairman of the Houston County Republican Party.

Survivors include his wife Joyce Long of Dothan; three sons, Michael Long, Christopher Long and Brian Long; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Ebinger and Leslie Ebinger; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
