Dura W. Newton, 105, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Wesley Manor.

rnServices will be held 11 am Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Stringfellow officiating. Burial will follow in Grimes United Methodist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. rnMrs. Newton was born May 28, 1905 in Ariton, AL and lived there the early part of her life. She moved to Grimes after she married the late Houston Newton and lived there for 60 years. She was a teacher at Midland City School and later owned and operated a kindergarten in Napier Field. She later retired from the Ginger Bread House Daycare. Mrs. Newton was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Grimes United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter Betty Jean Thompson, and her son Joe Newton. rnSurvivors include her daughter Ann King of Gulf Breeze, FL; 7 grandchildren including Tommy Thompson Anice, Terry King, and Mike King; several great-grandchildren including Phillip Thompson and Ashleigh Funk; a brother Laney Wynn of Enterprise, AL; several nieces and nephews; and a very special caregiver Linda Curry. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
