Dwayne R. Carlson

August 14, 1925 — May 16, 2016

Dwayne R. Carlson, 90, a resident of Dothan passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Carlson was born August 14, 1925 in Iowa and spent the early part of his life there. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenter's & Joiners of America and later served as President of the Afl-Cio in Anchorage, Alaska. He was the Executive President of Alaska State Federation of Labor.  He resided in Headland for 10 years prior to moving to Dothan in 2016. He was an avid gardener and loved sports and boating. Mr. Carlson was a member of Denton Road United Methodist Church, his wife's home church.

Mr. Carlson was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Jay Carlson, and by his brothers, Dale Carlson and Darrell Red Carlson.

Survivors include his wife Rev. Glenda Ziglar Carlson; his daughters, Karen Eisler and Diane Goodnight; his grandchildren, Deanna Stewart, June Smith, and Cole Carlson; his sister, Lois Porath; and his sister-in-law, who is more like a sister, Virginia Carlson.
