Cottonwood

Eddie Morris, a lifelong resident of Cottonwood, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2023, after an extended battle with cancer. Born on July 7, 1964, Eddie was a cherished member of the community and will be deeply remembered for his industrious spirit, generosity, and kindness.

Eddie was the proud son of the late Willie B. and Elsie Chapman Morris. He was a devoted brother to Willie Morris, Jr. and Jeanette Butler. His family circle extended to his beloved aunts, Eunice Mae Hoffman and Daisy Mae Chapman, and his dear uncle, John Chapman. Eddie was a loving uncle to his nephews Billy Ray (Donnae) Morris, Anthony (Tawanna) Morris, Sammy Butler, and his nieces Samantha (Gary) Daniels and Jennifer (Willie Roy) Daniels. He also held a special place in his heart for his great-nieces and great-nephews, including Brion W. Dickerson, Bennet W. Dickerson, Love B. Morris, Bailey Rae Morris, Anthony Morris, Jr., Derrick, Aaliyah Morris, Arianna Daniels, Somora Daniels, Malique Daniels, and Jayliana Daniels.

Eddie received his education in Cottonwood, which shaped his love for nature and the outdoors. He spent most of his life working on a tree farm, where his handy skills were always in use. Though Eddie was a quiet man who preferred to keep to himself, his presence was always felt and appreciated by those around him. His love for travel and sightseeing was a testament to his adventurous spirit, always ready for the next journey, always eager to explore the beauty of the world.

Despite his quiet demeanor, Eddie was known for his generosity and kindness. He was generous with his time, always willing to lend a hand when needed. His kindness extended beyond his family and close friends, reaching out to everyone he met. He was a living embodiment of the famous quote by Winston Churchill, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

A celebration of Eddie's life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Union Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Cody officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 1-2 pm. Eddie will be laid to rest at Union Hill Baptist Church, returning to the land he so dearly loved.

Eddie's life was marked by his love for the outdoors, his dedication to his work, and his devotion to his family. His life was a testament to the power of quiet strength and steady perseverance. He was a pillar of his community, a guiding force in his family, and a friend to all who knew him.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Eddie Morris lived his life according to this principle, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
