Edward Joseph Joe" Lapham

Edward Joseph “Joe” Lapham, Jr. of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Thursday September 1, 2011 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center at the age of 65. Joe was born June 10, 1946 in Plattsburgh, New York. He was a 1964 graduate of Peru Central School in Peru, NY and a 1966 graduate of Champlain College in Burlington, VT. He served in the U. S. Air Force for 8 years, and resided in Chicago, Illinois prior to moving to the Wiregrass in 1983. Joe had a diversified business career and was a very successful salesman in the car business for many years and was employed at Jim Skinner Honda at the time of his retirement in 2009. He was an avid golfer and loved the game of golf. Joe is survived by his mother, Shirley Spiegel Lapham of Plattsburgh, NY and his children, Brian and wife, Christi Lapham of Dothan, AL; Barb and husband, Billy Jacobs of Coffee Springs, AL; Shawn Hughes of Milton, FL and Scott and wife Carin Lapham of Rehobeth, AL. Joe is also survived by his sister, Gale and husband, James Carroll of Plattsburgh, NY and his brother, William and wife, Vickey Lapham of Oviedo, FL. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Justin Edwards, Blake Parnell, Katelyn Lapham, Billy Jacobs, Jr., Stephanie Lapham, Ashley Edwards, Brandon Jacobs, Christopher Hughes, Clayton Lapham, Declin Hughes, and Carly Lapham and by two nieces, Kristen McCarthy Lapham Baker and her daughter, Lauren; and Kelley and her husband, Brian Carlsen and their son, Jack. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Joe is preceded in death by his father Edward J. Lapham, by his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Margaret Lapham, by his maternal grandparents, Sidney and Harriet Spiegel and by several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 Thursday evening prior to services. A graveside service will also be held in Plattsburgh, New York where Joe will be laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
