Edward Carroll Stutts

Edward Carroll Stutts, born February 23, 1930, died early Monday morning March 26, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until service time on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to In Christ Name, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1330 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36301, or to First Baptist Church of Slocomb, 225 Dalton St., Slocomb, AL 36375, or to the charity of your choice. Edward was preceded in death by his parents Edward Horace Stutts and Annie Lorrie Carroll Stutts. Edward is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Gillis Stutts; his children Scarlett Tatum (Hilt III), Phil Stutts (Genie), Lori Ingram (Terry), and Steve Stutts; his grandchildren Hilt Tatum IV (Sarah), Phillip, Patricia and Emmie Stutts, Catherine and Isaac Collier; and his great-grandchildren Sophie, Lola, and Harper Tatum. Edward was a member of Dothan First United Methodist Church, The Dothan Country Club (1956), The Elks Club and the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce. Edward was born in Slocomb, Alabama. He was a 1948 graduate of Slocomb High School and obtained his B.S. in Accounting from the School of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alabama in 1952 where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was active in Air Force ROTC and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Reserve in 1952. He spent two years actively serving in the United States Air Force with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and was discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following his service in the Air Force, Edward returned to his hometown of Slocomb, Alabama, where he worked with his grandfather, L. A. Carroll, in his accounting office and in 1959 he attained the status of Certified Public Accountant. Edward and his family moved to Dothan in 1968. Edward operated a successful accounting firm for 40 years. Professionally, his most fulfilling achievements came from assisting clients start and develop successful businesses. He was active along with other local investors in several motels (Heart of Auburn Motel, Best Western - Dothan Inn, and America's Best Value Inn & Suites) and the redevelopment of Porter Square during and after his accounting career. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of First Light Home Care of the Wiregrass and Kindred Home Care for their kindness and compassion.
