Edward Jerome Whaley, 66, of Dothan died Monday, April 11, 2011 at a local hospital.

Services will be held 2 pm on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Harold McKissic officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.

rnMr. Whaley was born August 4, 1944 in Houston County and lived in Dothan most of his life. He graduated from Carver High School and shortly after joined the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service he was employed for several years with GTE Phone Company. Mr. Whaley was a member of the Patterson Street Baptist Church and in his spare time he enjoyed working in his yard. rnSurvivors include his wife of 10 years Patricia Whaley of Dothan; sons, Edward Whaley, Jr. of Birmingham and Michael Austin Matisha of Taylor; daughters, Lisa Whaley Evans of Eufaula and Gabrielle Whaley of Dothan; step-children, Reginald Harris Catana of Atlanta, Timothy Harris of Atlanta, Shmael Harris of Dothan, and Malik Asante of Atlanta; several grandchildren; sisters, Norma Whaley McCloud of Kinsey, Thelma Turner James of Dothan, and Lisa Whaley Powell of Dothan; brothers, Timothy Whaley LaTrice of Dothan and Ronnie Whaley of New York; devoted friend since the 1st grade Willie Earl Jackson; several cousins, nieces ,nephews and friends also survive. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
