Effie Lee (Cummings) Grimsley

Effie Lee Grimsley, a resident of Fort Gaines, GA, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Fort Gaines Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 95 years young.

A celebration of Ms. Effie's life will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 20, 2023, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Robert Wright, Sr. officiating. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 am.

Ms. Effie was born June 30, 1927 in Abbeville, AL, to the late Eddie Cummings and Annie Bell Kelley McNealy. On July 2, 1943, she married Carl A. Grimsley in Abbeville, AL. She attended school in Lawrenceville, AL. She loved reading and she faithfully read her bible daily. She was fascinated with solving all kinds of puzzles. Ms. Effie, affectionately known as Granny to many, always believed in caring for others. This was exemplified in the way she passionately prepared meals that stretched well beyond feeding her household. Everyone was always welcome at her table. At the time of her death, she was a member of Outreach for Souls Church in Abbeville, AL.

Ms. Effie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Grimsley; children: Carl A. Grimsley, Sam H. Grimsley, Betty L. Morris, Erma J. Cochran, Eddie F. Grimsley, and three of her precious children that were called home at birth; grandchildren: Rita Benefield, Antonio Grimsley, John Myers, and Satchiel Morris; siblings: Henry L. (Doodle) McNealy, Jerry N. McNealy, and Henry A. (Muck) McNealy.

Ms. Effie leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Olin Grimsley of St. Clair, AL, Mable Drew of Abbeville, AL, Gregory (Francis) Grimsley of Pensacola, FL, Wallace Grimsley of Tampa, FL, and Beverly Hairston of Dothan, AL; 37 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Moree Lawrence of Hartford, CT and Annie Lee (Eddie) Mack of Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
