Elizabeth Johnson Ellis, a native of Pensacola, entered into eternal rest July 20, 2010.

Visitation will be at Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home in Pensacola from 4 to 6pm Friday. Memorial services will be Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 10am at the funeral home with Dr. Jerry Gaw of Nashville and Chris Pinney of Gulf Breeze, FL officiating. Burial will follow at Bay View Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Mount Dora Children’s Home, 301 West 13th Ave., Mt. Dora, FL 32757.She was born September 8, 1923 at the home of her parents Sam and Carrie Belle Johnson. In 1940 she graduated from Pensacola High School then graduated from David Lipscomb University and attended George Peabody School for teachers now Vanderbilt University. During WWII she volunteered with the Red Cross serving her country by caring for wounded soldiers. Elizabeth began her teaching career at Brentwood Elementary and continued her service at Escambia Christian School for a total of 30 years. She married Ralph Martin Ellis of Enterprise on June 21, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1970. While a lifelong member of the Church of Christ she expressed her unwavering faith by instilling the love of God by example and encouragement to everyone. Elizabeth relocated to Dothan in 2004 and reigned as 2008 Mrs. Westside Terrace.Elizabeth is survived by her son, Andrew Martin Ellis Elaine of Memphis, her daughter Laura Ellis Burkhart Steve of Dothan, AL, grandchildren Benjamin Burkhart of Pensacola and Elizabeth Burkhart of Nashville, TN. Also surviving is her brother, Sam Johnson Jean of Nashville and sister in laws Imogene Ellis, Helen Ellis, Sue Ellen Donaldson, all of Enterprise, brother in law Gerald Ellis Jean, Warner Robinson, GA, many nieces, nephews, extended family and faithful friends. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
