Ellison Pippin, a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at a local hospital. He is 78. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 2 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Anderson and Pastor Dewayne Efurd officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018. At other times, the family will be gather at his childhood home, 4295 South State Road 605, Rehobeth, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery , AL 36111. Ellison was born on February 3, 1940 and lived his early years in Rehobeth, Alabama. He was a 1959 graduate of Rehobeth High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served aboard the USS Bushnell as an engineman. He was discharged in 1965 at the rank of E-3. Following his military service, he moved back to Dothan and worked a Bama Truck and Equipment as a diesel mechanic. He continued his career for over 50 years as a mechanic and service manager until his retirement in 2008. Ellison was an avid fisherman and loved spending time outdoors. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Ellison was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Mr. Pippin was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Ellison Pippin, Sr. and Vallie Branton Pippin; and his sisters, Mary Nell Pippin Kirkland and Eddie Ruth Williams. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Myra Faye Brown Pippin; daughter, Kristi Pippin (Bryant) Goss; grandchildren, Austin Harrell and Brett Goss; sister, Jane Gilliland; nieces and nephews, Valisa Kirkland Meggs, Timothy Kirkland and Dewayne (Pam) Efurd; great niece, Jade (Ronnie) Garcia; and great nephew, Tyler Meggs. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 2 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Anderson and Pastor Dewayne Efurd officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
