Mr. Elton Battles of Dothan, AL (formally of Hartford, AL) passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his residence. He was 85 years old. A private service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association. Mr. Battles was born October 6, 1934 to the late Floyd and Gussie Justice Battles. Mr. Battles was a great man of faith and a true servant of God. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a hard worker and worked at Hedstrom until its closing. Mr. Battles loved family gatherings, music, and Auburn football. He also faithfully kept a daily journal, which will be treasured by his family. He was a loving husband, daddy, granddaddy, and great granddaddy. A full portion of goodness and grace have been untethered from the weights of this world and now reside in the Realm of our Father... We miss him greatly! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Voncile Battles, a brother, Charles Melvin Battles, and a great grandson, Carson James Davis. Survivors include his brother, James Orell Battles, Milton, FL; his loving wife, Shirley Stephens Battles; his sons, Danny (Carol) Battles, Dothan, AL and Gary (Laurie) Battles, Knoxville, TN; his daughters, Sherry (Jim) Davis and Lisa Battles, Dothan; his 6 grandchildren, Daniel (Brittany) Battles, Justin Battles of Dothan, Christopher (Candace) Davis of Chelsea, AL, Hillary (Brett) Singletary of Dothan, Matthew and Jonathan Battles of Knowville, TN; his 2 great-grandchildren, Nash Battles and Charlotte Marion Davis; and several nieces and nephews. We were so Blessed by the kind people of Kindred Hospice, especially, Beverley Outlaw Kosik, Dana Register, Angela Turner, Karie Cox, Charles Goldsmith, and Shelley Scarborough. We couldn't thank them enough for the wonderful care that was given. Serving as active pallbearers will be Daniel Battles, Justin Battles, Christopher Davis, Brett Singletary, Matthew Battles, and Jonathan Battles. A private service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
