Elton John Cooper, 91, of Dothan passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Cooper was born January 28, 1923 in Conehatta, MS and spent the early part of his life in Mississippi. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1951 with a B.S. Degree in Accounting and an MBA. Mr. Cooper was employed for many years with U.S. Steel in Birmingham and retired in Pittsburg, PA moving to Dothan in 1979. He was a Master Gardener, a member of the Wiregrass Day Lilies Society, and a member of Harvest Church in Dothan. He was preceded in death by his wife Lori Cooper, 3 sisters and a brother.
Survivors include his daughter Becky Barfield; grandchildren, Andrew, Kristen, and Emily; a great-grandchild Maddox Cooper Barfield; 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
