Eugene Sylvester

Eugene H. "Gene" Sylvester, 78, of Dothan passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aubrey Sullivan officiating.  Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Rd., Montgomery, AL  36111, or to their favorite charity.

Mr. Sylvester was born February 5, 1935 in Mississippi and moved to Montgomery where he graduated from Sidney Lanier High School.  He was a 1959 graduate of Auburn University and was employed in the computer management industry for 32 years prior to his retirement in 1994.  Mr. Sylvester resided in many places including, Montgomery, AL, Blue Bell, PA, Houston, TX, Los Angeles, CA, New Jersey, and New York City, but moved to Panama City following his retirement.  He lived in Dothan since 2000.  He was a Mason and a member of the Shriners.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Sue Benton Sylvester, Dothan; his daughter, Blair Tripp Rackley; his stepchildren, Danny Conrad, Darlene Conrad, and Chad Yoon Hwa White; his 3 grandchildren, Piper, Pearson, and Brady Rackley; his 2 step-grandchildren, Casey and Annie Cho; his sister-in-law, Christine Sylvester; a niece, Kathy Richardson; and a nephew, Jimmy Suzanne Sylvester also survive.
