Frances T. Smith

Frances T. Smith, of Cottonwood passed away surrounded by her family Sunday September 3, 2017 at her residence. She was 78.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a prayer service commencing at 5:00 p.m. There will be a memorial luncheon immediately following the burial in the Reception Center at Sunset Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born on July 19, 1939 in Providence, Rhode Island and spent the early part of her life in Pawtucket, RI where she graduated from high school. She met and married Louie Smith, Jr. in 1958 and they moved to Dothan in 1959. After living in Rhode Island again for a few years they settled back in Dothan in 1979. She was employed with Altus Bank in the mortgage department prior to working with Bell Supply for many years until her retirement at the age of 72. Mrs. Smith was a devout member of St. Columba Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Stasiukiewicz, her husband, Louie Smith, Jr., her son, Anthony Earl Smith, her sister, Patricia Ballard, and her niece, Susan Ballard.

Survivors include her children, Daniel (Theresa) Smith, Carol (Chuck) Bass, Barbara Smith, Edward Smith, Ann Smith, and Billy (Denise) Smith; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Theresa Stasiukiewicz.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff of Southeast Alabama Home Healthcare especially Julia, Amy and Nose Over Toes Chuck, as well as the entire St. Columba Parish Family especially Father Patrick Gallagher, Father Patrick Maher, Father Johnny Celzo, and Sister Miriam Fiduccia.
