Frankland Baker, a resident of Dothan passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 22.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park with Pastor Paul Durry officiating and Robert Byrd directing.
Frankland did not walk until the age of 5 but thanks to the Shriner’s he was able to take his first step. As Frankland’s mother, I would play gospel songs and although he was limited with speaking, he would get happy and start running because he knew I was playing something good about God. He knew his mom, sisters and brother would be there for him. He was dependent upon his entire family. Mainly as his mother, I went the last mile of the way with him, but God was at the end of the road to pick him up to take him home so he wouldn’t have to struggle any longer. As the song writers, “Mighty Clouds of Joy” sing, he would walk around as if he was in heaven.
Frankland was preceded in death by Willie and Betty Lawton, Jim, Mary, Atta, Daisy, Charlie, Cynthia, James, Jeweline, Randolph Harrison and several cousins.
Survivors include a dedicated mother and stepfather Kawannia Lawton and Prentiss C. Rabb; a father, Frank Baker; grandparents, Fate and Alberta Baker; sisters, Daquandria, Dominque, Mercedeze Lawton; a brother, Prentiss D. Rabb; a nephew Natavium Baker and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
