MSgt Frederick J. McGuffin USMC Ret., 90, a resident of Ozark passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Frederick Jacob McGuffin “Fred”, 90, of Ozark, AL went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, December 10, 2016.  He was born on June 20, 1926 to the late Alfred and Marguerite Stohlmann McGuffin of Princeton, CA.  He was the fourth of five children all of whom have proceeded him in death.

Fred joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 when he was 17 years old and went off to serve in the Pacific during World War II. He continued his service in the Korea War and Vietnam for 3 tours.  He retired after 30 years of honorable service.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1973, Fred went to work for Alabama Power Company as a Right of Way Agent where he worked for 20 years before retiring again in 1993.

Fred loved to work in the yard and had a very green thumb and could make anything grow.  He loved model railroads and enjoyed collecting and tinkering with then.  Fred made a lot of memories with his family during his many travels and camping trips.

He met his beautiful bride, Marguerite Inez Worthington McGuffin deceased 2002, while stationed in Albany, GA.  They were married on July 2, 1954.

He is survived by his second wife, Annette Ward McGuffin whom he married in 2004; of Ozark, AL; one daughter Susan McGuffin Beasley John – Deceased of North Augusta, South Carolina; one son U.S. Navy Captain Fred A. Wanda McGuffin of Bartlett, TN. He was lovingly known as Pawpaw to 2 grandchildren, U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Jeremy Stephen Kathryn McGuffin of Little Rock Air Force Base, AR and Kristen McGuffin James Richardson of Bartlett, TN.  He had 8 great grandchildren that adored him: Reya McGuffin, Ian McGuffin, Rylie McGuffin, Anna Grace McGuffin, Lily McGuffin, Kara Richardson, Emma Richardson and his namesake Jacob Richardson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
