Fredrick Paul Griffin

January 28, 1934 — June 30, 2016

CPO USN, Ret. Frederick Paul Griffin, a resident of Ozark, passed away on June 30, 2016 at his residence.  He was 82.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 8, 2016 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Enfinger officiating.  Military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.

CPO USN, Ret. Fred Griffin was a founding member and president of LAVA Lower Alabama Veterans Alliance.  While in this position he was in the forefront of establishing legislation with the assistance of our legislators that provided for the POW/MIA to be flown on Alabama state property and now fly's proudly at the Capitol in Montgomery and many other places.  Moreover, while in a leadership position in LAVA, Fred was instrumental in legislation for disabled veterans to have a low cost or free fishing and hunting license as well as activity for other benefits and fund raisers for Alabama Veterans and families.  Fred was a member and served as an officer of the VFW Post 4448, DAV #94, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 373, and other veteran service organizations and for his tireless efforts and on behalf of veterans and families, he has received well deserved and numerous commendations, plaques, and awards from legislators, friends, and his fellow veterans.  Mr. Griffin was a stellar veteran's advocate and has helped vets and families too numerous to name.  Chief Petty Officer Fred Griffin served this good country in many ways including multiple combat tours in Vietnam.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joy Arline Griffin and by his 2nd wife of 11 months, Connie Griffin.

Survivors include his 2 sons, Mike Griffin and Barry Patty Griffin; his daughter, Beverly Frank Cannuli; his 7 grandchildren; and his 17 great-grandchildren.
