Gary Dean "Big Gary" Jones, Sr., resident of the Birmingham, AL area, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. He was 64. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 17, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John D. Reese, III officiating. Jones (Headland and Rehobeth AL, Graceville, FL), mother, Margaret Whitehurst Jones, and nephew, Corey Shane Jones. Gary was born on September 3, 1954, in Dothan, Alabama. He lived his early life in the surrounding areas. A distinguished 30-year career with United Parcel Service afforded him the lifelong dream of traveling throughout the United States and the world. He served the company in the Florida panhandle area and throughout the Alabama district. He was an avid athlete, adventure enthusiast, and "BAMA" fan. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the Word of God. He dedicated his life to his faith, family, work, and friends. He was a member of New Covenant Christian Fellowship (Dothan) and Liberty Church (Birmingham). His heart was to help others (especially if it involved tree cutting). He adored his wife and 5 grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Kathleen Diane (Calhoun) Jones; his son Gary (Blanche) Jones, Jr.; 5 grandchildren: Raven Anne, Gary Dean III, Arianna Denise, Cheyenne Rebecca and Sierra Rain; older brothers, Calvin Lamar (Jackie), Ronald Edward (Dee), Larry Paul (Ann) Jones; in-laws Sharlene (Scott) Welch, Norene, Kenneth and Thurmon Calhoun; numerous nephews and nieces.
