George M. Benefield

George M. Benefield, a resident of Dothan passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at his residence. He was 82.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday, December 13, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brett Hemphill and Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301. Mr. Benefield was born April 20, 1928 in Dale County and he lived the early years of his life in the Christian Hill Community. He joined the United Stated Navy and served in World War II, Korean War and the Cuban Conflict and retired after 21 years of honorable service. Mr. Benefield resided in Norfolk, Virginia prior to moving to Dothan in 1966. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh Benefield, Virgil Benefield, Royce Benefield, and Aubrey Benefield, and his sisters, Merle Benefield and Sue Howard. Mrs. Benefield would like to thank Covenant Hospice for their support and help during this very difficult time.Survivors include his wife, Mary Connie Benefield, Dothan; his sister Evelyn Elmore; his niece, Judy Wilson Myers.
