George Elton Ingalls

July 9, 1976 — December 15, 2024

George Elton Ingalls passed away on December 15, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Born on July 9, 1976, in Alabama, George's roots ran deep in the red clay of his beloved home state. He was a man of the earth, one who lived his 48 years with the kind of vigor and dedication that truly made a mark on the world around him. He breathed his last surrounded by the love of his wife and son, closing the final chapter of a life richly lived.

George's early years were spent in Gordon, Alabama, where he was raised by his parents, Barbara Kaye and Dennis Ingalls. He was a graduate of Ashford High School and grew up alongside his brother, Brannon (Kellie) Ingalls, learning the values of hard work and family.

At the age of 18, George began his journey as a farmer, tending to fields of cotton and peanuts. His dedication to his craft was evident to all. He was honored with the title of Farmer of the Year—a testament to his skill and commitment to agriculture. George's work ethic and involvement in the farming community left a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.

George's heart was ever at home, with his cherished wife of 18 years, Erica Ingalls, and their son, Jon Preston Ingalls, who will carry forward his teachings and love for the land. He was a pillar for his family, including his mother-in-law, Sheila Butler; sister-in-law, Pam Ivey; nephew, Jackson Ivey; and nieces, Loren Beth Ingalls and Bella Ingalls. His best friend, Tim Crawford, will forever remember the adventures and laughter they shared. George was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Elizabeth Hicks and Vonzelle and George Ingalls.

An avid outdoorsman, George found solace and joy in the natural world. He was a big hunter and fisherman, often found wading through the streams or traversing the woods in pursuit of his next catch. George's love for mud bogging was matched only by his passion for Alabama sports, a fervor that was infectious to all who knew him.

"Those who knew George best would describe him as handy, compassionate, and loving. His hands could fix a broken machine, build a safe haven for his family, and offer comfort to those around him. As Helen Keller, a fellow Alabaman, once said, 'The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.' George embodied this sentiment, touching the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him."

A celebration of George's life will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Watermark Church, with Pastor Todd Thorpe officiating. Friends and family are invited to share in the remembrance of a life well-lived from 3-4 pm at the church, before the service begins. Serving as active pallbearers will be Tim Crawford, Ronnie Kohen, John Hall, Tyler Sanders, Gene Womack, and Chad Butler.

George Elton Ingalls leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and faith. His memory will continue to be a guiding light for his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Though his presence will be missed, the seeds he planted in the hearts and lands of Alabama will bloom for years to come.
