George Kirby

George Kirby, a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 73.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 Thursday.Mr. Kirby was born January 19, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio and he and his family resided in Dothan for the past 32 years. He has been in the furniture business for over forty years and spent his last years at Barrow Furniture. Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his grand-daughter, April Kirby Phillips, his parents, James and Helen Kirby, a sister, Marilyn Graybill.Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Virginia Kirby, Dothan; his son George Richard Kirby, II, and his wife, Lucy, Dothan; his daughter, Jenny Traylor, Dothan; five grandchildren, Meagan Nelson and her husband, Steven, Kirby Traylor, George Richard “Trey” Kirby, III, Sadie Batemen and her husband Stephen; Tracie Kirby; six great-grandchildren, Grayson Faircloth, Ross Nelson, II Madilyn Nelson, Riley Phillips, Kiera Nelson and Wyatt Bateman; a sister, Virginia Cernik and her husband, Chuck; a brother, Tom Kirby and his wife, Terry; several nieces and nephews.Serving as active pallbearers will be Kirby Traylor, Henry Williford, Steven Nelson, David Ward, Mark Williams and Shane Pelt.
