George Louis Krietemeyer

George Louis Krietemeyer, 62, of Dothan, AL, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017, at his home.

George was born January 23, 1955, in Anthony, Florida. He attended North Marion High School in Anthony, FL, and he matriculated to the University of Florida. He obtained a degree in forestry and worked from 1979-2008 for Georgia Pacific. From 2008-2017, he worked as a partner for Krietemeyer Accounting.

George was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan, a volunteer for FUMC Meals on Wheels, and a member and active alum of the Chi Phi fraternity. He was a lifetime member of the University of Florida’s University Athletic Association.

He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Krietemeyer, his mother, Betty Krietemeyer-Whitesell, his step-father Jim Whitesell, and his brother, Edward Krietemeyer.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Libby Krietemeyer; his daughter Kimberly (Clay) Wilson of Tucker, GA; his son Stephen (Samantha) Krietemeyer of Dothan, AL; his step-sister Lee (Rick) Riley of Blythewood, SC; his step-brother Jim (Judy) Whitesell of Aiken, SC; and sister-in-law Patty Tootle of Reidsville, GA.

He is survived by nieces and nephews Jim (Julie) Whitesell and their children, Baxter and Shyla, of Aiken, SC; Jamie (Jim) Snelling of Lexington, SC; Alex (Jillian) Riley of Castle Hayne, NC; Jenna (Dan) Carson of Lexington, SC; and Sammie (Eric) Crane of Blythewood, SC.

He is survived by Florida tailgating buddies, namely Kelly (Sheryl) LaRosa, Jim (Jean) Colyer, Jim (Nadine) McPherson, Dave (Cindy) Davis, Karen Holland, and Steve (Linda) McCann.

George was an avid learner, an expansive traveler, a voracious reader, a dedicated fisherman, a cherished family member, and an outgoing friend. He had a passion for nature and wildlife. He was a surprise to everyone he met, and everyone he met felt welcomed into his life. He was an animated man who loved humor and conversation. His laugh will be forever engrained in the hearts of those who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., and the ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Meals on Wheels at First United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
