Edward Gerald Hicks, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at his residence. He was 66. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Chester Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, 129 County Road 48, Abbeville, AL with Rev. John Smith officiating and Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 am. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Haleburg Rescue, PO box 115, Headland, AL 36345. Gerald was born on December 24, 1952 in Dothan, Alabama and lived the early years of his life in Ashford. He was employed with the Houston County Road and Bridge Department where he was a heavy equipment operator for 25 years until he retirement in 2015. Gerald enjoyed the outdoors and he loved to hunt, fish and garden. He was also a huge Alabama Football fan. Survivors include his wife, Ginger Hicks; his daughter, Keisha Hicks; his step-son, Scott (Emlyn) Lucas; his 3 grandchildren, Dalton Butler, Landon Lucas, and Graham Lucas; his brother, David (Angie) Hicks; his 3 sisters, Dorothy (Danny) Marsh, Barbara Kay (Dennis) Ingalls, and Jean Hicks; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mandy Brackin for her help in taking such great care of Gerald during his time of need.
