Gerald Paul Selby, a resident of Dothan and formerly of Panama City Beach passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009. He was 83.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Willis and Mr. Selby’s son Rev. Mike Selby officiating. Burial with will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1231 Fortner St., Dothan, AL, 36301.Mr. Selby was born on April 30, 1926 in Clearwater, FL and spent the early years of his life there. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. Following his service in the military he received his pilot’s license and later became a flight instructor starting a long career in aviation. Mr. Selby was an avid aviation enthusiast spending most of his life in aviation. He was the founder of Coastal Helicopters in Panama City, FL in 1977. Mr. Selby has resided in Dothan since 1999 and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.Mr. Selby was preceded in death by his parents, John Ottis Selby and Madge Selby, a sister, Marie McMullen, a son John Selby, and a grandson, Logan Selby. Survivors include his wife Charlotte Selby of Dothan; four sons, Mike Selby and his wife Linda of Loxley, AL, Tim Selby of Atlanta, GA, Jim Selby of Mobile, AL, Paul Selby, Jr. and his fiancé Julie Vinson of Panama City, FL; a step-son Michael Lewis of Daytona Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Heather Selby Ray Brian of Ft. Benning, GA, Laura Selby of Daphne, AL, Michael Selby, II and his fiancé Shannon of Irvington, AL, Kiersten Selby of Panama City, FL; four great-grandchildren, Phillip, Brooke, and Brent Ray of Ft. Benning, GA, Mylie Palma of Panama City, FL.Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Selby, II, David Willingham, Jerrett Lewis, and Jake Lewis. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
