Glenda Johnson

January 6, 1943 — July 7, 2016

Glenda George Johnson was born on January 6, 1943 to Reverend W.E. Bill George and Corene Brock George. She graduated with honors from Holmes County High School in 1961 and then attended Chipola Junior College. She married Tommie C. Johnson on April 12, 1964 and accompanied him on his military career.  While assigned to Fort Benning, Ga. they became the proud parents of their firstborn, Jennifer.  During a following assignment to Ft. Wainwright, Alaska they welcomed their son Jeffrey. In each new assignment her first priority was establishing a church home for her family and building lifelong friendships with her neighbors. Upon retiring from the Army at Ft. Rucker, AL the family moved to Dothan. They became members of First Free Will Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her death.

Glenda's work ethic began as a teen in retail; later working in banking and retiring as the warehouse manager for Sears in Dothan. Her life calling was that of a servant. She set the standard for not just her family but the many she taught in Sunday School and worshiped with in choir and other church activities.

On July 7, 2016 at Flowers Hospital, she became absent from the body and present with her Lord. She was welcomed there by "that great crowd of witnesses" that included her parents, in-laws, and her precious son Jeffrey E. Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 52 years Tommie C. Johnson, Dothan, AL; Daughter, Jennifer Jay Horne, Madison, AL; Four beloved granddaughters, Caitlin and Callie Horne, Anna Grace and Emma Katherine Johnson, Dothan, AL; Three sisters, Frankie Henslee, Destin, FL; Rhonda Wayne Andrews, Abbeville, AL; Penny Chuck Dockery, Bonifay, FL. She is also survived by Tommie's sisters, Jackie, Bobbie, Judy, and Connie and Earl Taggert, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday July 9, 2016 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Private graveside services will be held later at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Trail officiating and Robert Byrd directing.

Glenda's life embodied the fruits of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She loved and cared for all; writing a sermon in every card, visiting and praying for each person she encountered daily. She was a devoted student of the Word and a Mighty prayer warrior. She nurtured everything she touched- the flowers that she grew, the food she prepared, the home she cherished and the people she adored.  She followed the command to love as Christ; completely and without prejudice.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Building Fund at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Dothan, 1461 Timbers Dr, Dothan, AL 36301.

Burial Date: January 1, 1970
