Glenna Lee Johnson, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 80. Born on April 6, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, Glenna was a woman of grace, generosity, and boundless love, whose warmth touched all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Glenna's journey through life was marked by devotion, both to her family and her many passions. She was a loving partner to her first husband, John Jennings, for 24 years until his passing in 1986, and then to Murrell Johnson for 26 years until his passing in 2016. Her love and guidance were a constant presence in the lives of her three daughters, Rhonda (Bill) Firestine, Lisa (Bill) Meacham, and Kimberly (David) Firestine. She was also a proud stepmother to Reed Johnson.
Her legacy continued to grow with the joy she found in her grandchildren, Benjamin (Alexandria) Meacham, John (Haley) Firestine, Jacob (Alexis) Meacham, Sarah (Zach) Bradshaw, Micaelin Firestine, Ryann Firestine, Aleksandr Firestine, and Aric (Shannon) Johnson. Glenna's great-grandchildren, Autumn Meacham, Carsen Meacham, Hannah Firestine, Cassidy Firestine, Ace Meacham, Andee Cate Meacham, Collins Meacham, and Hadley Bradshaw, also brought her immense happiness.
She was a beloved sister to Joy Dismang and spent many cherished moments with her numerous nieces and nephews. Glenna's family extended to her adored cat, Thomas, who was a constant companion in her later years. Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Davis Witsman, Jr., her brother, Garland Witsman, and her sister, Charlena Malone.
After leaving Baltimore, Glenna made a home in Arkansas, where she became an integral part of her community. She had a love of Civil War history, an interest that she pursued with enthusiasm and shared with all who were interested. Glenna's selflessness was also evident in her career, where she was known for her generous spirit and dedication to those around her.
Glenna was a devoted wife and mother who found joy in life's simple pleasures, such as watching movies and spending time with her loved ones. Her selfless nature was evident in every aspect of her life, from the way she cared for her family to her involvement in her church, singing in the choir.
Those who knew Glenna will remember her as a loving, generous, and selfless woman. Her kindness and unwavering support left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on through the many lives she touched.
A graveside service to celebrate Glenna's life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at St. John Baptist Church Cemetery in Brundidge, AL. The service will be officiated by Rev. Bill Meacham, a testament to the close ties she maintained with her family. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of Glenna at Sunset Funeral Home from 10 am to 12 pm on Wednesday.
Glenna Lee Johnson will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her warmth, compassion, and unwavering love will continue to inspire those she has left behind.
