Grace V. Whiddon

Grace Veazey Whiddon, a resident of Westside Terrace, died there Thursday, May 12, 2011. She was 89.

rnFuneral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 3:30 pm at First Christian Church, 1401 N. Cherokee Ave., Dothan, with Rev. Sterling Boykin officiating. A private burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 pm until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Covenant Hospice. rnMrs. Whiddon was born September 27, 1921, in Jacksonville, GA, and lived most of her life in Dothan. She was married to the late Charles Whiddon for 57 years and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Grace enjoyed playing bridge, watching Auburn football, and following the Atlanta Braves for over 30 years. She was always giving of herself and her time, whether it was babysitting for her granddaughter or taking food to friends and relatives during difficult times. Mrs. Whiddon was a member of First Christian Church, a church which supported her during the past 6 years of her illness when she could not attend services. A special thank you to the church family who brought her communion each Sunday. She loved her church and was a member for over 60 years. rnMrs. Whiddon was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Frankie Veazey, her husband, Charles Whiddon, two sisters, Sarah Lynn Parker Jack, Alta Hynson Ralph, a brother, Joe Grady Veazey Wanda, and a sister-in-law, Audrey Damian Veazey. rnSurvivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Cindy Whiddon, her brother, James A. Veazey, her granddaughter, Brooke Whiddon, all of Dothan, her sister-in-law, Jane Harrison Doug of Montgomery, and several very special nieces and nephews. rn

The family would like to thank the Westside Terrace staff for their loving care during the past year and to the Covenant Hospice employees for their support and comfort during this difficult time.
