Harold S. Rainwater

Harold S. Rainwater, 89, of Dothan, Alabama died August 19th. His body will be cremated, and the remains interred at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Fayette, Alabama.

Harold was born in Lamar County Alabama December 19, 1924 to Almus J. and Clara Mabel Rainwater. After high school at age 17, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served until 1946. Twenty four months of his service was in the South Pacific and China. He served in the United States Army in 1951 and 1952.

Harold and Pat Lowrey, his wife of 67 years, were married May 31, 1947. He graduated from Holmes Junior College and from Memphis State where he played football at both schools.

Harold was head football and basketball coach and Athletic Director at Frayser High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He then began a 29 year engineering career at Western Electric working in Chicago, Illinois and Columbus, Ohio.

Upon his retirement in 1985, Harold and Pat moved to Dothan, Alabama where he pursued his interests in music and motorcycling. Harold wrote several songs later recorded by his wife Pat, and a book detailing their Gold Wing motor cycles travels to the 49 continental states.

Harold is survived by his wife, Pat: his son Larry and his wife, Sallie, of Marietta, Georgia: a daughter, Carolyn Rainwater of Fayette, Alabama: a daughter, Tina Rainwater of Pataskala, Ohio: 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Harold has been an active member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Dothan since 1985. A memorial service will be held at the church at a later date.
