Haywood Hubert Blocker

Haywood “Hubert” Blocker, a resident of Newton passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at his residence. He was 75.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Bethel Baptist Church in Newton with Rev. Larry Roberts and Rev. Dwayne Seay officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8pm on Tuesday. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2291 County Road 31, Newton, AL 36352.Mr. Blocker was born on April 21, 1935 in Dale County and lived in Newton most of his life. He was employed with AFS at Ft. Rucker as an aircraft inspector at the time of his death. Mr. Blocker was a very dedicated and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for the past 40 years.Mr. Blocker was preceded in death by his daughter, Delaine Blocker Stanford, his 2 brothers and 4 sisters.Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Susanna Blocker of Newton; his son Earl Blocker and his wife Patsy of Newton; his daughter, Carolyn Gaff and her husband Tom of Berry, AL; his 6 grandchildren, Brian Blocker and his wife Melissa, Brantley Brockett and his wife Amber, Crystal Deal and her husband Josh, Brandon Blocker and his wife Beckie, Zach Gaff, and Anna Stanford; his 9 great-grandchildren, Braxton, Brittany, and Brenley Blocker, Brice, Hayes, and Wells Brockett, Bailee and Alaina Deal, and Bishop Blocker; his 2 brothers, Wilton Blocker and his wife Lynell of Eufaula, AL and Darril Blocker and his wife Peggy of Newton; his 3 sisters, Wynell Brooks of Dothan, Betty Ruth Preston, Pinckard, and Velma Havard of Tumbleton, AL; his son-in-law, Ted Stanford; his several nieces and nephews also survive.Serving as active pallbearers will be Brian Blocker, Brantley Brockett, Brandon Blocker, Zachary Gaff, Josh Deal, James Enfinger, Joey Moore, and Steve Lawrence. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Blocker’s co-workers of AFS of Ft. Rucker. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
