Helen Kitson Downes, 69, of Dothan passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at a local hospital.

rnMemorial services will be held 6 pm Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Thomas Harrison officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY, 10016. rnMrs. Downes was born January 18, 1942 in Wood River, IL, and lived in Jacksonville, IL the early part of her life. She resided in Wauchula, FL prior to moving to Dothan in 1983. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time and caring for her children and grandchildren. rnSurvivors include her husband Lawrence Downes of Dothan; sons, Scot Downes Annette of Dothan and James Downes Lori of Dothan; daughters, Joyce Goodwin-Albert Geoff of Dothan, Rhonda Ward Earl of Midland City, and Debbie Downes-Parks of Dothan; grandchildren, Jeremy Downes, Crystal Goodwin, Holly King Jason, Christie Ward, Brenton Ward Lori, Ashley Howell-Ward Tim, Betsy Howell, Amanda Stratton Travis, Alex Anderson, Erika Downes, Caitlin Parks, Laci Money, Brandon Money Michelle, and Brittany Talliaferro Robert; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother Charles Kitson; sisters, Marie Coonen, Dorothy Anders, Nancy Brogdon, Betty Flenniken; several nieces and nephews also survive. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
