Homer Lee Brascom

Homer Lee Brascom, Sr, of Dothan, passed away May 1, 2018 at Washington County Rehab and Nursing. He was 83. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday May 7, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home with Minister Wade Register officiating and Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Homer Lee Brascom, known to all who knew him as Ben, fell asleep in death, May 1, 2018. He will be dearly missed. He was born March 8, 1935 in Troy Alabama. He resided in Dothan, Alabama for 51 years, where he worked many years for Emfinger Steel as a truck driver, until the deterioration of his health. He was one of five children born to the late Julia Edwards, and father Willie Riggins, but he would always say it is 18 of us, 13 siblings born to a loving stepmother and father, Minnie and Willie Riggins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bertha Mae Brascom, 3 children, Johnnie Mae, Louise, and Willie Mae Brascom; two granddaughters, Brittany and Isis Brascom; siblings Comer C. Brascom, Sylvester Greenwood, J.I. Riggins, Queen Esther Meadows, Frances Snell, Ellen Newby, Edna Googman, Lucy Riggins and Rebecca Knight. He was one of Jehovah Witnessess. He was a member of the South Park Congregation. His memories will be forever cherished by his sons, Homer Lee Brascom, Jr., Troy, Alabama, Benjamin Brascom, Midland City, Alabama, Tyrone Brascom, Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Bertha Thompson, Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Powe, Dothan, Alabama, Katie Brascom, Taylor, Alabama, Ollie Bostick (Willie), Chipley, Florida, Ellen Brascom, Dothan, Alabama, Priscilla Brascom, Midland City, Alabama; brothers, Frank Riggins, Rochester, New York, Willie Riggins, Jerry Riggins, Newark, New Jersey, Mack Arthur Riggins, Tallahassee, Florida; sisters, Avoirl Somville, Christine Riggins, Newark, New Jersey, Nellie Riggins, Atlanta, Georgia, Wonnie Moore, Newark, Delaware; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Weatherspoon, Tallahassee, Florida, Minnie Brascom, Palmetto, Florida; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Pearl Lee; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday May 7, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home with Minister Wade Register officiating and Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
