Howard C. Adams

August 5, 1926 — June 5, 2018

Howard C. Adams, a resident of Dothan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. He was 91. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Covenant United Methodist Church. Mr. Adams was born on August 5, 1926 in Centerville, Kansas and lived the early years of his life in Merrian, Kansas. He joined the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII where he served as a bombardier. He later attended Kansas State University with a degree in Business. Mr. Adams worked with Firestone Tire Company, was an office manager with Shafer,Kline, & Warren Civil Engineering, in Overland Park, KS, and he worked with Kenworth Truck Company as a sales representative. He moved to Dothan in 1982 and purchased Kenworth of Dothan, he owned and operated it for several years. Mr. Adams later purchased convenience stores and operated them prior to his retirement in 1990. He served as President of the Overland Park Volunteer Fire Department, served as Troop Leader for Boys Scouts of America, was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, and the Dothan Kiwanis Key Club. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Vona Adams and by his grandson, Clayton Noon. Survivors include his children, Mike (Teresa) Adams, Curtis Adams, and Kimberly (Rodney) Bolin; his grandchildren, Heather (Carey) Drake, Lauren (Nick) Gilchrist and Rachel Sasser; his four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
