Huey Cook, a resident of Echo passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at his residence. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cynthia Mosley and Rev. Charles Goldsmith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.Mr. Cook was born on August 11, 1921 and grew up in the Wiregrass area where he worked many jobs such as farming, trucking and construction. While he was employed with Couch Construction he and his family relocated to Florida during the construction of Interstate 75. Later he was employed by the Hamilton County Road Department operating heavy equipment. In 1982 he and his wife Doris moved back to the Wiregrass area where he was fondly referred to as “The Lawnmower Man,” working from home repairing small engines. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Doris Cook, a step-son Teddy Daniel Smith, and a son Huey “Buddy” Cook Jr.Mr. Cook leaves behind a large extended family and many friends to include three daughters, Lucy Stephens of Ozark, Diane Hallford and her husband Bobby of Ozark, Linda Shelley and her husband William of Jennings, FL; a step-son Donald Smith and his wife Chrissy of Jacksonville, FL; a son Paul Cook of Aurora, CO; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother also survives.
