Hugh Hollowell

June 15, 1941 — September 5, 2018

Hugh "Butch" Hollowell, a resident of Dothan passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 77 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Entombment will follow with military honors in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Covenant United Methodist Church Missions. Mr. Hollowell was born June 15, 1941 in Muncie, IN and lived there most of his life prior to moving to Dothan in 2005. He was a 1959 graduate of Muncie Central High School prior to joining the U.S. Air Force and serving until 1966. He later joined the U.S. Army Reserves and served as a drill sergeant from 1974-1981. Butch was employed with General Motors for 30 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a baseball fan, loved Nascar, visiting Disney and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. Butch was a lifetime member of the Daleville, IN Lodge 730 Free and Accepted Masons, member of the Taylor Lodge 447, lifetime member of Scottish Rite Valley Indianapolis, IN, Anderson, IN Commandry Chapter and Council, past Associate Bethel Guardian of Job's Daughters, Bethel 25 of Muncie, IN, and of Bethel 115 of Daleville, IN. He was a member of Covenant UMC in Dothan where he served as a door greeter. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Retia Hollowell; his daughters, Nancy Daugherty and Dawn (Nate) Johnson; his grandchildren, Kayla Daugherty, Trevor Daugherty and Brody Johnson. Burial Date September 8, 2018 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating.
