Imena Jenkins Dean

Imena Dean Jenkins, a resident of Dothan passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the home of her daughter. She was 91 years old. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 3-4:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home followed by a celebration of her life with Rev. Freddie McCain officiating. At all other times, the family will be at the home of her daughter, Anne Atkinson. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Northside Methodist Church and Academy, 2600 Redmond Road, Dothan, AL 36303. Mrs. Jenkins was born March 25, 1927 in Pinckard, AL to the late J.L. "Leon" and Era Adams Dean. She attended school in Pinckard and Dothan and graduated from Dothan High School in 1945. She married Lester Jenkins on May 12, 1945, and they both worked in the family business, D & D Transportation and the Leon Motel until her retirement. Mrs. Jenkins had 2 passions: her family and her church. She enjoyed all the activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a charter member of Northside Methodist Church and was an active member until her health prevented her from attending. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.L. and Era Dean, a brother, Joseph L. Dean Jr., a brother-in-law, Remus Jenkins, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Vera Mae Mathis. Survivors include her sister, Martha N. Dean; a son, Michael D. (Beth) Jenkins; a daughter, Anne J. (Philip) Atkinson; grandchildren, Anne-Marie A. (Jay) Everett, Dean (Michelle) Jenkins, Brian (Krissy) Atkinson, Becky J. Lane, and Courtney A. (Scott) Brown; great-grandchildren, Jordyn C. (Jarred) Griffin, Gracie Everett, Nicole Lane, Grant Jenkins, Brennen Atkinson, Christopher Lane, Noah Lane, Ella Atkinson, Hayle Brown, Taylor (Patty) Everett and Sydney Everett; sister-in-law, Sue Jenkins; brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Melba Fears; many cousins also survive. The family would like to express their thanks to Firstlight, Covenant Care Hospice nurses, physician, chaplin and private care givers for all of the love and support to our family during our time of need. Serving as pallbearers will be Dean Jenkins, Brian Atkinson, Grant Jenkins, Brennen Atkinson, Jay Everett, Jarred Griffin, and Scott Brown. Burial Date July 22, 2018 The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 3-4:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home followed by a celebration of her life with Rev. Freddy McCain officiating. At all other times, the family will be at the home of her daughter, Anne Atkinson.
