James Hugh Chandler, Sr.

James Hugh "Jimmy" Chandler, Sr., a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 78 years old. Private graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Rev. Randy Hurt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, P.O. Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302. Mr. Chandler was born April 17, 1940 in Birmingham, AL and lived the early part of his life in Selma, AL. He graduated from Parrish High School then joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for 2 years. Following his military service, he moved to Dothan and in 1968 he purchased Miller Grocery and rebranded it as Chandlers Grocery. He operated this landmark for the past 50 years. Mr. Chandler enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, and growing red roses. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Annette Chandler; sons, James (Carol) Chandler, Jr. and Todd Chandler and friend Jake Talley; grandchildren, Kristen Chandler and Caleb Chandler; his mother-in-law, Frances Richards also survives.
