James Emery Cole, a resident of Dothan and formerly of Headland, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Flowers Hospital. He was 87 years old. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Kocsis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. James (Jim) was born April 21, 1931 in Newberg, OR and raised in Springfield. He was drafted in to the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War. He was transferred with American Plywood Association to Dothan, Alabama in 1968. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he boldly served the Lord. He was an avid gardener and well known for his love and propagation of Japanese maple trees and hydrangeas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Heather Rowland. Surviving relatives include his beloved wife of 66 years, Beverly Cole; a daughter, Connie (Dyrl) Rowland and a son, Greg (Pam) Cole; sisters Norma Hodges and Fannie Stotera and a brother, Cliff Cole; grandchildren, Darren Rowland, Farrah (Thomas) Adams, and Philip (Meghan) Cole; and great grandchildren, Elizabeth (Josh) Starling, Emery Adams, Carson, Anna Grace and Madison Cole and Harlow Rowland; several nieces and nephews.Burial Date June 27, 2018 Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Kocsis officiating.
