Dothan

James Patrick Cox, affectionately known as Jamey or Papa, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on November 18, 1948, in Washington, D.C., Jamey was a man of humor, spirit, and love, who touched the lives of many with his warm heart and subtle humor.

Jamey's life was marked by a dedicated career, a love for sports, games, cooking, and his cherished cats. He began his journey serving in the military for six years, bravely fighting in the Vietnam War. After his military service, Jamey embarked on a successful career with Freightliner for over 40 years, where he worked in sales handling parts and services for trucking companies.

A devoted fan of Alabama football and a good sci-fi movie or suspense novel, Jamey was a simple man who loved spending time with friends and family. Board games were another passion, whether it was a competitive round of Farkle, Yatzee, or Phase 10, Jamey was always ready for a challenge.

Jamey's love extended into the kitchen, where he often cooked meals for his loving wife, Debbie. He also had a soft spot for his cats, particularly his beloved "Fat Cat," who passed before him. His pets brought him immeasurable joy and comfort, and he cherished each moment spent with them.

Survived by his wife, Debbie Cox, Jamey leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. His many friends and loved ones will remember him as a man who wanted for nothing and felt he had all he needed right at home.

Jamey will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His funny anecdotes and spirited cheers during football games will be cherished memories for all. His dedication to his family, career, and country served as an inspiration for all who knew him. As we say goodbye to Jamey, we celebrate a life well-lived, and a man well-loved. Rest in peace, Papa, knowing that your memory filled with love and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
