James F. Cobb, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, in Slocomb, Alabama. Born on December 15, 1952, in the Hodgesville-Cottonwood area, James lived a life marked by dedication to his family, hard work, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.

James was a man who built his life on the foundations of love and labor. He was the son of the late Archie and Pauline Kirkland Cobb and grew up as one of ten siblings, learning the values of family and hard work at a young age. He attended local schools and soon became known for his industrious nature and his ability to fix just about anything.

For many years, James worked with Sony Magnetics until its closure, demonstrating his resilience and adaptability in the face of change. He was not one to sit idle; after the factory closed, he became a well-respected handyman, with a particular love for tile work. His craftsmanship was not just a job but a testament to his meticulous nature and his joy in creating beauty and function in every space he touched.

James's commitment to his community was evident through his involvement with the Southeast Health Planning and Development Department. He believed in giving back and lending a hand wherever it was needed, embodying the words of Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

A man of many interests, James was especially passionate about sports and the outdoors. He was an avid fan of Auburn Football, and his enthusiasm on game days was infectious. He also found joy in cooking, with his hush puppies being the stuff of local legend. James took great pleasure in supporting his son, Brad "Bubba" Cobb, in the Special Olympics, demonstrating his unwavering support and pride in his family's achievements.

Fishing was a pastime that brought James peace and happiness. Many days were spent casting lines into the waters of Lake Eufaula and Lake Seminole, where he shared laughter and stories with friends and family. His green thumb was evident in his garden, where he could grow anything, creating a lush retreat that reflected his love for nature.

James's legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his son Brad "Bubba" Cobb, daughter Lori (Matt) Barefield, and his adored grandchildren, Ella Brooke, Allie Claire, and Harper Gray Barefield. His memory will also be cherished by his brothers, Terry (Debbie) Cobb and Mike Cobb; his sisters, Barbara (Sonny) Hughes and Linda Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and warmth. James was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Larry Cobb, Joe Cobb, Paula Shingler, Maxine Pybus, and Ruby Creamer.

Described by those who knew him as handy, selfless, and generous, James lived a life that exemplified these traits every day. His support for his family was unwavering, and his presence was a source of strength and comfort.

A celebration of James's life will be held at 3 pm on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Mike Griggs officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories from 1:30 pm until the time of the service.
