James Edward Hartzog

February 26, 1936 — January 18, 2014

Mr. James Edward Hartzog of Dothan, Alabama passed away on January  18, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.  He was born February 26, 1936 in Dothan, Alabama, the son of James Hartzog and Evelyn Hartzog.

Jim was a successful businessman for many years.  He also served his country in the US Air Force.  He was a member of First Methodist Church of Dothan. He loved Horses and was quite the showman winning many blue ribbons at Horse Shows.  He was most proud of his Children, Grand-children and his Great Grand-children.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Hartzog and Evelyn Hartzog, 2 sisters Helen Mathis and Joyce Tice and his son Mark Hartzog.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 58 years Mary Lunsford Hartzog, his daughters Donna Ellen Lewis and Laura Leigh MartinBill; daughter-in-law Penney Hartzog Jones; grandchildren, Anna Kathryn Lewis Barron Ben, Lauren Elizebeth Hartzog Beck Ben, John David Lewis Hannah, Mary Ashley Hartzog Dean, Colby Martin and Carly Martin; 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Joe Hartzog Betty, Ann McCallister Gerald, Buddy Hartzog Penny, Terry Dasinger Jimmy, Bob Hartzog Pat, Lynn Smith Terry, Beverly Freeman Paul, and Beth Smith; brother-in-law AJ Tice; brothers-in-law, James Lunsford Emily, Ben Paramore Susan, and James Paramore Sarah; many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff of the Sanders wing at Wesley Manor for taking such great care and having so much compassion for the family!

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, January 20, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. David Taunton officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. In Lieu of Flowers memorials can be made to The Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway #2, Dothan, AL, 36303, or the Taunton Children’s Home, P.O. Box 870, Wewahitchka, FL, 32465.
