James A. Helms

James A. Helms, 75, a native of Dothan passed away Friday December 20, 2013 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

James was born on May 30, 1938 in Alabama and graduated from Dothan High.  He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years and was wounded veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an Air Transportation Superintendent and a recipient of multiple awards and service citations, including two from the South Vietnam Government.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alton and Bessie Johnson Helms, his wife Charlene, and a son Jeffrey Helms.

He is survived by his children Robert of the Dallas, Texas area and David of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a daughter-in-law Louise Helms. Also James is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and Tom Vickers of Lynn Haven, Florida.

James will be interred in Amarillo, Texas beside his late wife Charlene. Memorial donations may be made to Enon Church of Christ, 1366 Enon Road, Webb, AL, 36376.
