James Elton “Tony” King, 95, of Pinckard died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at home.Funeral services will be held 3 pm Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Bryan and Rev. Anthony Tutor officiating. The eulogy will be given by his son-in-law the author Pat Conroy. Burial with military honors will follow in Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mr. King’s daughter, Nancy, who is battling a rare cancer. Mr. King was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was a farmer all of his life. Mr. King was a lifelong member of Pinckard Methodist Church and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and had been active in several farm-related associations.Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Conroy and her husband, Pat, Beaufort, SC, Rebecca Schuler and her husband Reggie of Pinckard, and Nancy King of Talladega, AL; his grandchildren, Jim Liz Ray, Jason Dana Ray, Eric Larissa Schuler, Jacob Ray, Kyle Emily Schuler, Matt Schuler, Will Hare, and Elliot Schuler; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Rex King of Atlanta; a sister, Kathryn Atkinson of Sneads, FL; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. King is preceded in death by his wife Pat King, a brother Max King, and a sister, Rosalyn Patterson.Serving as active pallbearers will be Mr. King’s grandsons, listed above. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Marcine McKnight, Maureen Edwards, Merle Mitchell, David Creech, Elijah Jones, the South Dale County Senior Citizens Center, Dr. Taylor Caffey, and Mr. King’s nieces and nephews. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
