James D. Miller

James D. Miller, 71, of Dothan passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at his residence.

rnFuneral services will be 3 pm Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. George Ellison officiating. Graveside services will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 pm. rnMr. Miller was born September 10, 1939 to the late John T. Miller and Eula M. Barberee in Geneva County, where he lived the early years of his life. He graduated from Geneva County High in 1958 and then joined the National Guard. He was employed with Geneva Water Works until he became self employed in construction in the late 1960’s. Mr. Miller was later employed with the United States Postal Services as a letter carrier from the early 1970’s until his retirement in the early 1990’s. James or “Papa Jim” as he was called by a number of his grandchildren spent most of his time enjoying the company of his family and his time at home. rnSurvivors include his wife, Avis Miller, Dothan; two sons, Guy J. Sarah Miller and Jason D. Kimi Miller; two step-sons, Tim Deanna Brown and Keith Darlene Brown; grandchildren, Cigi, Loren, Bo, Andrea, Kelci, Kailie, Danielle, T.J. and Josh; a brother, Grady Miller; a sister, Pauline Atwell Miller; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
