James Roy McKnight, a resident of Newton passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was 70.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with David McKnight and Christine Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations, in Roy McKnight memory, may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, AL-FL Council, 6801 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36305.Mr. McKnight was born June 30, 1939 in Dale County and he lived all of his life in Newton. Mr. McKnight was employed at Fort Rucker. He provided 45 years of support to U.S. Army Aviation. He retired in 2002 as Fleet Manager of the OH-58D Warrior Helicopters at Hanchey Field. Survivors include his wife Annette McKnight of Newton; daughters, Sheryl Jernigan and her husband Ken of Newton, Joy Standifer and her husband Jeffery of Alabaster; grandchildren, A.J. Jernigan, Maddi Standifer, Emily Standifer, Lydia Standifer; brothers, Donald McKnight and his wife Mary of Dothan, Emmett McKnight and his wife Judy of Headland, Dennis McKnight and his wife Carol of Headland; a sister Joette Bankston and her husband Bob of Newton; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends also survive.
