James Curtis “Jim” Scott, a resident of Malvern, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his residence. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hosea Parker officiating. Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 pm.Mr. Scott was born on June 2, 1923 in Jackson’s Gap, Alabama and lived the early years of his life in Phenix City, AL. He joined the U. S. Navy and served during WWII and was in the Battle of Midway. Mr. Scott retired from the U.S. Navy in 1961 after serving for 20 years. He resided in Slocomb before moving to Malvern in 2005. Mr. Scott was a Mason and attended Malvern Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife Rowena Scott of Malvern; his three sisters, Inez Norris and her husband Billy of Phenix City, AL, Gusccile Mead of Pasadena, FL, and Jacqueline Dendy of Dothan, AL; several loving step-children, step grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews also survive.
