James Walter "Honey" Trawick, known for his unwavering spirit and infectious smile, passed away after an extended illness on March 17, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on September 19, 1943, Honey was a lifelong resident of Dothan, where he cultivated a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a legacy of love and laughter.
Honey's journey began as the son of Marvin and Lorraine Hughes Trawick, and his early years set the tone for a life characterized by hard work and strong community ties. A proud graduate of Rehobeth High School, class of 1961, he carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life, building a reputation as someone who was unfailingly handy and always ready to lend a helping hand.
After high school, Honey joined the National Guard, serving his country with pride and honor. His work ethic shone brightly in his professional life as well; he spent 15 years with UPS before channeling his entrepreneurial spirit into a beloved local establishment, Honey's Hot Dogs, which he owned and operated with the help of his family.
Honey's personal life was rich and full. He was a beacon of love and support, a man who knew that the heart of his happiness was his family. He was a devoted father to his children, James Mark Trawick, Jamie (James) Lolley, and Tracy (Dan) Cumbie. His role as a grandfather to Ariel (Jordan) Lowe, Molly (Stone) Lasseter, Drew Cumbie (Lillie McCorkle), Korin Lolley, Hunter Trawick, and Sarah Trawick brought him great joy, and he cherished every moment with his great-grandchildren, Reid Lowe and Ellie Mae Trawick. Honey's siblings, William Earl (Hazel) Trawick and Mary Martha (Malcolm) Walker, along with several nieces and nephews, will fondly remember his loving guidance and the fun-filled gatherings that he so enjoyed.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Brenda Louise "Nana" Marshall Trawick, Honey's love story is one for the ages, a testament to enduring companionship and mutual adoration. Their partnership was a cornerstone of the family, and together they created a legacy of love that will continue to flourish through their descendants.
Honey's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his vibrant personality. He was the life of the party, known for his humor and ability to make anyone laugh. Whether it was building something with his own hands, casting a line into the water on a fishing trip, or gathering with his old classmates, Honey embraced life with zeal. His commitment to family was paramount; he was a hard-working provider who loved his family above all else.
A celebration of Honey's life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Willis officiating.
