James Austin Veazey

June 27, 1926 — June 5, 2017

James Austin Veazey, a resident of the Terrace at Grove Park, died Monday, June 5, 2017. He was 90.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Hill Cemetery at 2414 Hartford Hwy., Dothan with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Dothan.

Mr. Veazey was born June 27, 1926 in Tifton, GA, and lived most of his life in Dothan. He was married to the late Audrey Veazey for 33 years and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Veazey served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta and the New York School of Interior Design. Jim and Audrey owned and operated Veazey Galleries for 34 years. Jim was an interior designer and decorated many homes and businesses in the Dothan area and was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. He was a member of the Chancel Choir at First Methodist Church, Southeast Alabama Community Theater, Dothan Rotary Club, and was a board member for several community service organizations.

Mr. Veazey was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Frankie Veazey, his wife, Audrey Veazey, three sisters, Grace Whiddon (Charles), Sarah Lynn Parker (Jack), Alta Hynson (Ralph), a brother, Joe Grady Veazey (Wanda), a nephew, Jerry Hynson, and a niece, Pam Parker.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Damian and Kay Veazey, grandchildren Michael and Audrey Veazey, his nephews Tommy Parker (Claudia) of Tifton, GA. and Bob Whiddon (Cindy) of Dothan, great nieces Grey Hynson Glandon (PJ) of Mount Vernon, OH, Sally Parker McLean (Alex) of St. Simons, GA, Brooke Whiddon Preston (Andrew) of Dothan, and great nephews Austin Hynson (Carlie) of Mobile and Cliff Parker of Tifton, GA.

The family would like to thank the Terrace at Grove Park staff for their great care the last several years and the Covenant Hospice staff for their support and comfort.
