James Oliver Webb

February 6, 1940 — August 26, 2013

James Oliver Webb, 73, a retired Army veteran, of Midland City passed away Monday, August 26, 2013 at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 10am Friday, August 30, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Parker officiating. Military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

James Webb was born on February 6, 1940 in Oxford, Alabama.  He joined the United States Army in 1956.  It became his career of 26 years.  Mr. Webb retired as a Command Sergeant Major of three posts.  He was a Platoon Sergeant in the Vietnam War and saved numerous lives through his leadership and received numerous awards to include the Purple Heart.  He was a Christian of the Church of Christ faith and served the Lord with his whole heart.

CSM James Webb was a very strong and intelligent man who loved his family dearly.  He was a great friend to others and saving lives was definitely his purpose not only in combat but to all people in need.

CSM Webb was preceded in death by his sister and brother, Georgiane and Jack Webb.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Lucille and Olan Swindle; his daughters, Sherry Webb Markey, Dr. Debra Webb Brenda, and Lucy Webb Kirby Richard; his ex-wife, Florine Webb; his grandchildren, Anthony, Jessy, and Joe Markey, Dakota Webb, Sadie Bateman Stephen, Tracie and Trey Kirby; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Eli Bateman; his nieces, Naomi Bop, and Amanda Ford; his sisters-in-laws, Loretta McMichael, Linda Reeves Mackie and numerous others.

Burial Date: January 1, 1970
